Old Friends
Saturday, June 15, 2013
-
Occasionally you run into old friends that have moved away, and it’s always gratifying to see that they are doing well in their new digs. Such is the case with two of our old legacy pumpers that were donated by the Township to a fire company in need from western Pennsylvania. Back in early 2006, the New Galilee Vol. Fire Dept. in Allegheny County suffered a break-in of their fire station and social club, followed by an arson attack to cover it up. The resulting fire destroyed the station and most of their equipment, prompting their search for some available equipment to let them go back in service.
The Spring Township Supervisors became aware of their plight and the Township Public Safety Director made the offer of two pumpers that were part of our original combined legacy fleet, those being the former Engine 65-1 (West Lawn) and Engine 71 (Vinemont). The pumpers were offered to West Galilee who immediately accepted them.
One Saturday, the folks from the west came east and picked them up, along with a generous donation of fire hose, personal protective equipment and miscellaneous hardware donated by both the Township and the Relief Association.
We really lost track of things right afterwards, but Deputy Chief Gould recently found their pictures at this link:

So, you can see that they are alive and well cared for, still serving their community much as they did here. Click on it and say hello. Click on this link for the Reading Eagle article:
